MY STORY (TESTIMONIES FROM PRISONERS)

TESTIMONY FROM PETER MWANGI (FORMER PRISONER)

My name is Peter Mwangi, I was once a prisoner but I escaped from remand, am not saying this to justify myself but as a testimony to some of the things that are done behind covers and also to in a way help our colleagues on to which we call criminals.

Well I and my friend were caught by the police robbing an M-pesa shop and as we were running them, I got shot, the friend of mine managed to escape but I was caught. Being caught when shot I thought they will first take me to the hospital but to my amusement they threw me in the cell with my knee bleeding profusely.

Nobody took pity on me not even the judge, imagine I was taken in the court and I had to wait for my case to be heard in the remand yet my leg was still with a bullet. It came to a point where my leg began to rot I could no longer bear the pain and that is when I heard of the plan two of my in-mates had, a plan to escape. They both helped me and we finally escaped.

Now people tell me was I wrong escaping? Hmmm now am back to the society, I have decided to change but nobody does trust me following the mark that I have from my past life. If my leg was treated on time it wouldn’t have to be cut. Sometimes I really wonder what the society of expect me, stigmatizing me only makes me feel like going back to the life I was in to.
